Ареолите им са вдлъбнати и имат глохидии, бодли и власинки. Цветовете са връхни, с чувствителни тичинки. Произход

Tephrocactus е род от Tephrocacteae, състоящ се от седем вида. Разпространен е в Аржентина. Названието идва от гръцката дума за пепелно-сив.

Описание

Дребни храстовидни кактуси с еднолинейно разклоняване. Имат сферични или по-удължени лесно-остделящи се сегменти, нишковидни корени и дребни опадащи листенца. Ареолите им са вдлъбнати и имат глохидии, бодли и власинки. Цветовете са връхни, с чувствителни тичинки. Плодовете са сухи, разпукващи се, семената саразлично едри, сплескани и с характерна структура.
