Описание[1]
Стебло: единично, плоско-сферично, 16-45 см диаметър и 10-35 см височина, светло-зелен
Ребра: 13-21, високи, остри, с ясно изразени подутини в зоната на ареолите
Радиални бодли: 9-15, 2.5 см дълги, прави, тънки, разположени ветрилообразно, бели до бледо-розови
Централни бодли: 4-7, 3 насочени нагоре 2-3 надолу, леко приплеснати, дълги до 4 см и широки до 4 мм; най-долният е с дължина до 9 см и ширина до 1 см, плосък, завършва с кука; всички са червени до червено-сиви, но може да бъдат и жълти (при var. flavispinus)
Цветове: 3-4 см широки и 4-5 см дълги, пурпурно-лилави или бледо-жълти (при var. flavispinus)
Отглеждане:
Относително лесни за отглеждане кактуси. Младите растения се садят в по-богат на хумус субстрат, при по-големите трябва да е по-слаб. В него да не присъства варовик. Саксията трябва да е с такъв размер, че кореновата система на кактуса да може да обхване целия обем от почва. Цъфтят при достигане на диаметър 11-12 см през късната есен. Поливат се по-рядко, но обилно. Нуждаят се от най-силното слънце и свеж въздух, който може да се осигури. През зимата се държат напълно сухи при температури 10-15 °C. Издържат на краткотрайни застудявания до - 5° C.

Болести: Издържливи растения. Възрастните екземпляри често хвърлят корените си, обикновенно зимата
