Описание[1]
Стебло: единично, сферично до цилиндрично, 45-60 (-100) см диаметър и до 1.5 (-3) м височина, синьо-сиво
Ребра: 15-30, ясно изразени, широки и дълбоки; при младите растения са разделени на едри издутини и ареолите им имат мъхесто покритие
Радиални бодли: 7-9, до 8 см дълги, леко извити към тялото, здрави, с диаметър над 1 мм, червено-сивкави, обикновенно хоризонталните са бели
Централни бодли: 1, 4-10 (-13) см дълъг, здрав, с диаметър до 2.5 (-4) при основата, червено-кафяв, при по-младите растения завършва с кука
Цветове: 5-7 см широки и 6-7.5 см дълги, жълто-червени
Отглеждане:
Средно трудни за отглеждане и бавно растящи кактуси. Правят между 1-6 ареола на сезон.Младите растения се садят в по-богат на хумус субстрат, при по-големите трябва да е по-слаб. В него да не присъства варовик. Саксията трябва да е с такъв размер, че кореновата система на кактуса да може да обхване целия обем от почва. Трудно цъфтят при любителски условия. Поливат се по-рядко, но обилно. Нуждаят се от най-силното слънце и свеж въздух, който може да се осигури. През зимата се държат напълно сухи при температури 10 - 15 °C. Издържат на краткотрайни застудявания до - 5° C.
Размножаване: От семена
Болести: Страдат от фузариум. Възрастните екземпляри често хвърлят корените си, обикновенно зимата
