Описание[1]
Стебло: единични, плоско-сферични, с диаметър 21 (-25) см и височина 12 (-17) см, тъмно-зелени
Ребра: 13, разделени на закръглени мамили, разположени спираловидно.
Радиални бодли: 4-7, долните три са къси или много къси с дължина 0,2-0,5 см, горните четири дълги 1-4 см, при възрастни растения старите бодли се разплитат подобно на азбест, стъклено-жълти
Централни бодли: 2-4, до 8 (-16) см дълги, цепят се подобно на радиалните, жълти до сиви
Цветове: 5 см широки и 5 см дълги, червени
Отглеждане:
Не особено трудни за отглеждане растения, стига човек да има търпение. Цъфтят към дванадесетата си година при подходящо отглеждане. Нуждаят се от богат на хумус субстрат. Поливат се по-рядко, но обилно. Нуждаят се от директно слънце, за да запазят компактен вид, дълги и гъсти бодли. През зимата се държат напълно сухи при температури 3 - 15 °C. Издържат на краткотрайни застудявания до - 5° C.
Размножаване: От семена.
Болести: Рядко страдат от фузариум и други гъбични болести. Възрастните растения често хвърлят корените си
