Описание[1]
Стебло: Единично, сферично, до 15 см диаметър и до 7 см височина, обикновено тъмно-зелено до бронзово
Ребра: 7-11 прави, разделени на заоблени мамили широки 3 см и дълги 2 см.
Радиални бодли: 6-9, с дължина 1-3 см, кафяви, с червени или жълти ивици, най-горният е изкривен.
Централни бодли: 3-4, с дължина 2-4 см, средният е най-дълъг, масивен, изкривен надолу
Цветове: 8-12 см широки и 6 см дълги, спадат към най-големите в този род, тъмно червени до пурпурни
Отглеждане:
Много бавнорастящи спрямо целия род. Нуждаят се от богат на хумус субстрат, малко по-дълбоки и по-тесни саксии. Поливат се по-рядко, но обилно. Нуждаят се от директно слънце, за да запазят компактен вид, дълъг централен бодил и бронзов цвят на епидермиса. През зимата се държат напълно сухи при температури 3 - 15 °C. Издържат на краткотрайни застудявания до - 10° C.
Размножаване: От семена, издънки не дават.
Болести: Сравнително държеливи растения към гъби, акари рядко ги нападат. Трудно хвърлят корените си.
