Описание[1]
Стебло: Единично, цилиндрично, до 5,5 см диаметър и до 8 см височина, обикновенно синьо-зелено
Ребра: 13 прави или в спирала, разделени на заоблени мамили, имащи дължина 13 мм и диаметър 9 мм.
Радиални бодли: 13-14, лъчисто разположени, обърнати към тялото, жълто-червени на цвят. Трите най-горни имат дължина до 17 мм.
Централни бодли: Обикновенно липсват. При доста възрастни растения се появява един, който е насочен надолу
Цветове: до 8,5 см широки и до 6 см дълги, червено-пурпурни, с бяла сърцевина, копринен блясък
Отглеждане:
Изключително благодатни растения. Цъфтят през четвъртата си година при подходящо отглеждане. Нуждаят се от богат на хумус субстрат. Поливат се по-рядко, но обилно. Нуждаят се от директно слънце, за да запазят компактен вид. През зимата се държат напълно сухи при температури 3 - 15 °C. Издържат на краткотрайни застудявания до - 10° C.
Размножаване: От семена или издънки при не особено възрастни растения.
Болести: Сравнително държеливи растения към гъби, акари рядко ги нападат. Възрастните растения са склонни зимата да хвърлят корените си
