Мексико (щатите Сан Луис Потоси, Нуево Леон, Коахила, Закатекас, Дуранго, Чихуахуа, Тамаулипас) и Съединени щати (Тексас)
Описание[1]
Стебло: Единично, цилиндрично, до 10 см диаметър и до 15 см височина, обикновено тъмно-зелено
Ребра: 8 (13) прави или в спирала, разделени на заоблени мамили.
Радиални бодли: 9-13 (-18), с дължина 12-13 мм, лъчовидни, прави.
Централни бодли: Обикновенно 4, долният е най-дълъг, перпендикулярен на стеблото, леко изкривен, 30-50 мм дълъг, червен на цвят, на края светло бежов. Двата горни са подобни на радиалните, кръгли или плоски. Най-високо разположеният бодил има до 30 мм дължина, плосък, в средата изкривен, почти бял. Всички бодли са шиловидни, прави, с възрастта посивяват
Цветове: Венчелистчетата са тъмнопурпурни към виолетови, в долната си част бели, с дължина 55 мм и ширина до 13 мм
Отглеждане:
Това не са трудни за отглеждане кактуси. Нуждаят се от богат на хумус субстрат. Поливат се по-рядко, но обилно. Нуждаят се от директно слънце, за да запазят компактен вид и дълги бодли. През зимата се държат напълно сухи при температури 3 - 15 °C. Издържат на краткотрайни застудявания до - 10° C.
Размножаване: От семена или издънки при доста възрастни растения.
Болести: Сравнително държеливи растения към гъби, акари рядко ги нападат. Възрастните растения са склонни зимата да хвърлят корените си.
