Описание[1]
Стебло: Единично, сферично до цилиндрично, 10 см диаметър и 15 см височина, тъмно-зелено
Ребра: 13, вълнообразни
Радиални бодли: 12-15 мм дълги, лъчисто-разположени; 1-3 см дълги; вертикалните са кафяви, а хоризонталните бели.
Централни бодли: 1-3, 4-5 см дълги, кафяви, един е кукообразен.
Цветове: до 7 см широки и 7 см дълги, жълти с червена сърцевина.
Отглеждане:
Твърде лесни за отглеждане растения. Цъфтят към четвъртата си година. Нуждаят се от богат на хумус субстрат. Поливат се по-рядко, в никакъв случай обилно. Нуждаят се от директно слънце, за да запазят компактен вид. През зимата се държат напълно сухи при температури 3 - 15 °C.Издържат на краткотрайни застудявания до - 10° C.
Размножаване: От семена.
Болести: Железни растения. Много рядко страдат от фузариум и други гъбични болести.
Разновидности:
setaceus: цветовете на растенията нямат червена сърцевина
orcuttii: централните бодли са по-дълги, жълти, остри
